Minnesota Flag Redesign
When the Minnesota State Flag was going through its redesign process I created my own version. I’m originally from Wisconsin but have been a resident of Minnesota for the past 5 years. Minnesota has felt like home since moving here and I’ve always associated the state with loons, friendliness, and the north star. I decided to combine these concepts in the flag design as they truly represent the state to me.

The Assets
The Loon represents the former, current, and future people of Minnesota. It is flying towards the North Star, which represents Minnesota itself. I used Illustrator to build this look based on images I found of them flying.
The North Star is meant to represent both the people of Minnesota coming home, and the people of the world moving here and knowing they are welcome, they are safe, and they belong.
The blue background represents the state motto “land of 10,000 lakes,” as well as representing the reliability of being able to call Minnesota home, no matter who you are or where you came from.
